I am new to triathlon and adventure racing, is the tri X series suitable for me?
YES  - GET INTO IT! The tri X series events are designed to cater for all levels of ability. If you are a novice please feel free to contact us to discuss the fitness and technical requirements of a tri X event.

We also offer special tri X training programs and familirisation days to assist with your preparations.

How does the team’s category work?
Teams are made up of 2 or 3 people, mixed, male or female – you choose.

The teams compete in relay style i.e. one person swims, then another does the bike, then another the run. Or, with a team of two someone can do 2 of the 3 disciplines.

All you need to do is enter the Teams category with a mate or 2, or register with our TEAM MATE FINDER service.

I’m looking for a teammate – can you help spread the word or let me know if someone else is looking for a team mate?
YES! Just register with our TEAM MATE FINDER service.
Just email

Please note your name, legs you would like to do, your contact email, level of ability (e.g. ‘Novice’, ‘Weekend Warrior’, ‘Elite’), & any preference of category (e.g. ‘Male/Female’, ‘Vets (40+)’, ‘Junior’

Will the bike ride be very technical?
Basically the course is designed to be suitable for all abilities, and the faster you want to go the more difficult or technical is becomes.

There are some more technical sections, but the answer does depend on your ability.

The courses aren’t hugely technical by mountain biking standards, although we haven’t had anyone ask to make the courses any tougher!

At tri X Lysterfield for example we do cover the Commonwealth Games MTB course, but if you’re a novice and you take your time when you need to, you will be fine.  Some participants will always need to jump off and walk short sections of our courses, and that is fine.

We do always suggest you get out on the trails before the race and see how you go, and if you need any tips let us know. We only use trails that are open for public use so there won’t be any surprises on race day.

Once you enter you receive a RACE INFO PACK with COURSE MAPS which give you the course detail in advance. Also contact us about the FAMILIARISATION DAYS, which offer an ideal opportunity to test the course, test yourself, and get one step ahead of the opposition!

Do I need a mountain bike for the bike courses?
No need to spend a lot of money on a new flash bike, but we would recommend a basic mountain bike with front suspension for these trails. Road or hybrid bikes with slick tyres are not safe (or much fun!) on these trails, but participants have ridden rigid frame bikes and enjoyed their ride.

I’m not a great swimmer but would love to take part; can I get someone to do the swim for me?
Yes you can! The Teams category allows anyone who doesn’t want to do either the swim, the bike or the run to take it on the tri X challenge.

Do you have Vets categories?
Yes – we offer Female and Male Vets categories for those aged 40 years and over.

Do you have Junior or Schools categories or races?
Yes – due to great interest in the junior ranks and schools, we have two Junior age categories, the 14- 16 years, and 17 – 18 year age groups.

Can I enter by post?
You can enter online here, or by post by downloading a enter form here, or by contacting us and we will send you one.

Can I drive to the race on the morning of the event?
I guess it depends where you live but we have made sure the events are within reasonable driving distance from Melbourne on the morning of a race. We have also chosen some great destinations to get away for the weekend, the tri Anglesea race is fast becoming a popular getaway destination. Thanks to some great support from local businesses, special accommodation and café deals are always advertised prior to the events in Anglesea.

Who organizes the tri X series?
The tri X series is organised by Aquaterra Sports, who have a background in adventure racing, triathlon, swimming and running events.

We love the sport and the tri X series was created after we were talking about events that we would like to participate in!

We wanted to get off road and discover the outdoors, and believed there was a gap in the event scene in between traditional triathlons and the burgeoning adventure racing scene.  We know there are some great environments to discover and challenge us, and thought we could offer something that many of you would enjoy…. And thus the tri X series was born!

The tri X guys and girls are all motivated to provide a professionally managed, enjoyable, accessible, safe and innovative off road series. We have a lot of fun putting on these events, and the event crew has a long event management history together, with the guys and girls having a vast array experiences from many of Australia’s major events.
